1/2 cup shortening or margarine
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1.2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup nuts
Bring raisins and water to boil. Turn off heat and cool to room temperature.
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat until lemon colored. Sift flour with soda, baking power, salt and spices. Alternately, add water-raisin mix and flour mixture to creamed shortening & sugar.
Spread on a greased cookie sheet (with elevated sides). Back 10-15 minutes at 375 degrees. Once cool, frost with sugar icing if desired. They are yummy without the icing!
